Home :: Sports :: MLB ASG thoughts

07/16/2008

For the 12th year, the American League has won the ASG. Why? Most of the time the NL looks to have better pitching, better overall players but AL always comes out on top.

Well, after the 15 inning game last night. I now know why. It’s the manager. Just take a look at the NL pitcher in the 7th and 8th inning.

Why Edinson Volquez in the 7th? The reason he’s in the NL it’s because when he was with the rangers he can’t get anyone out. Sure, he’s 12-3 on a bad Reds team. But he’s also a NL rookie. I am pretty sure he won’t do as well in the 2nd half. The NL hitter will figure him out like the AL guys did. Why not Brad Lidge. These are the guys who make a living in the late innings and mostly lights out? I don’t get it.

Then we have Brian Wilson in the 8th. 25 saves for the lowly SF Giants. OK 25 Saves, but he also has a 4.58 ERA!! This is not as bad as Volquez, IMO Wilson would have been a better choice in the 7th.

Anyway, so the NL loses another ASG. That mean the AL will have home advantage in the World Series. If you are a betting type of person, it’s time to call in your bets, chances are the AL is going to win again because they’ve won 7 of the last 11.

I just hope the Cubs get their act together when they play on the road. ;)
