Going koo koo for Fuku(dome)

December 12th, 2007 No comments

From Cubs.com:
“The Cubs’ patience paid off. The club announced on Wednesday that Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome has agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the team, pending his passing a physical.”

So does this mean we’ll have a sushi bar under the center field scoreboard? Will we see a bunch of Japanese fans banging a large drum near the right field line? Does this make the Cubs a better team? Is this the year?

Stay tuned.

Kosuke Fukudome

So the Cubs reportedly are offering 50 million to this guy. I hope he’s more than what his stats shows. Because while they are pretty good, they are not impressive.

BUT, given what the Cubs had been working with since Sammy Sosa, I’d say this is a huge improvement. Unless Matt Murton did a Barry Bond like transformation but I truly doubt that.

At any rate, here are Fukudome’s stat through sometimes in 2007.

Year G AB R H HR RBI BB K Avg Slg OBP
1999 132 461 76 131 16 52 50 121 .284 .451 .359

NLDS Game1 – Cubs Vs D’Backs (a live blog)

October 3rd, 2007 No comments

So… here we go…the playoff begins.

Top of 1st inning:

Just got done watching a new Ghost Hunters. Right in time for the start of the Cubs-Snakes game. Looks like the weather is iffy here so the satellite might go out on me. Which is not good. D.Lee just looked pretty bad striking out, his at-bat looks very nervous. I hope he’ll get over it. Jacque Jones with a walk which is a good sign. Here we go…. I hope Z can control his emotions…..

Be back in a few….

Bottom of 1st:

Z looks a little jumpy right now. Lots of movements… wiping his head… taking off his cap…walking around…. come on.. just calm down. Nice pitch to get the old timer Tony Clark. I hope this settles him down…..

BTW, TV sound is off and radio is on. Have to listen to Ron…….

3rd inning:

Yeah!! big Z with the big bat! DOH! and Soriano looked like a fool with that swing. Webb is pretty damn good with that change. Come on……. don’t leave Z on second…….Sh*t!

3 up and down. Looks like Z is cruising now.

Bottom 4th:

Damn. Another Drew. As if JD did not hurt the Cubs enough. Ok, Z really needs to settle down.

Top of 6th:

Once again…. man on second… I hope they can get Lee in this time. Go Geovany Go! MVP! I really like Geo. he’s going be a good one. Finally a catcher with real potential for the Cubs.

Ryan’s been good all year. I love to see him get it done here. Bases Loaded, 1-1 count. YES! 1 up! Let the flood gate open.

I kind of like Frank Thomas and Cal Ripken Jr. as the commentator on TBS.

Time for big Z to breeze through the bottom of 6th.

Bottom 6th:

Nicely done.

Bottom of 7th:

Z is gone.. Marmol gives up the jack. I think Lou is being too careful and DBacks are getting lucky. Seriously though, I think Lou wants to get Marmol ’s first playoff game inning out of the way.

I remember Auggie used to suck it up as a Cub.

3-1. Time to get some runs!

End of Game:

Well, it wasn’t a bad game. Webb was just too tough when he needs to be. I want to believe Lou wanted to get this one out of the way and to get some pressure off the kids. I hope that’s going to work out for him.

I hope they go out and get them tomorrow night.

Thank you Chicago Cubs.

Thanks for the roller coaster ride. Now, the real season begins. Like Harry, I am cheering you on.
